Munnar  is a small  town and also a  hill station located in the Idukki district of the southwestern Indian which is in the  state of Kerala. Munnar is  around 1,600 metres (5,200 ft) above from the  mean sea level,[2] in the Western Ghats mountain range. Munnar is also known as  the "Kashmir of South India" and is a popular honeymoon destination..

Munnar is a town situated  in the Western Ghats mountain range in the Kerala state. Which intially A hill station and former resort for the British Raj elite, And it is surrounded by rolling hills with tea plantations established in the late 19th century. Munnar is famous for Eravikulam National Park, a habitat for the endangered specious tnat is  mountain goat Nilgiri tahr, is home to the Lakkam Waterfalls, hiking trails and 2,695m-tall Anamudi Peak.

ABOUT MUNNAR

Munnar was the  capital of the British in southern India. Munnar is mainly developed  to cultivate tea plants by British eventhogh  it was first discovered by Scottish planters. The name Munnar is believed to mean "three rivers", referring to its location  at the middle of three mountain streams Mudra puzha, Nallathanni and Kundala. Once-up-on a time , Munnar was treated as the summer resort by the British government in South India. There is much more about Munnar that  everything cannot  be simply  put in words .
The Munnar history began in the prehistoric period , so it  prove that it was discovered around the area point of Stone Age civilization. A British lawyer and tea planter leased  600 sq. km of land around Munnar, which was then covered with thick jungle, from the Poonjar chief,  who was a subordinate of the Maharaja of Travancore. Furthur, he  cleared the jungle for Tea plantations. Then in 1983 James Finlay Group sold their remaining share holdings and the company became known as Tata Tea Ltd., the largest integrated tea company in the world. This land was later known as Kanan Devan (Kannan Thevar)  Land. L


One of the famous attractions  of Munnar is  Neelakurinji a shrub that used to grow everywhere  in the shola grasslands of Western Ghats in India. The Nilgiris, which literally means the blue mountains, got its name from the purplish blue flowers of Neelakurinji that blossoms once in 12 years. And there is one more famous attraction  in Munnar is The Nilgiri Tahr. The Nilgiri Tahrs are goats, The western Ghats occupies  along the West coast of South India.

Now the area with all these famous attractions has became the  great sightseeing spot for the visitor, and every time more and more tourists visit  to this popular place in the hills. With this growing tourism, also increase the sightseeing activities and hotels for accommodation  facilities and comfort of the guest

Taxi cars and Auto-rickshaws easily available at munnar for pick-up, dropping and for sight seeing.You can also get bicycle for rent at DTPC Information centre Old Munnar.

Time to visit

You can visit Munnar throughout the year. But best time to visit August to May. It is not good for children and ola-aged people to visit munnar in winter because the weather is extremely cold during winter (November, December,and January). Eventhogh you are interested to visit then take extra woolen garments during heavy winter season.
